Wreckdiving at its best

November 2 – 9, 2024

Scapa Flow is the final resting place of the German Imperial High Navy and is considered one of THE diving destinations for wreck enthusiasts.

The interned German navy fleet in Scapa Flow after the end of the First World War was scuttled on June 21, 1919 on the orders of Admiral von Reuter. More than 70 ships, almost the entire German navy, were not to fall into the hands of the British Royal Navy undestroyed.

These days, the seven remaining ships lie between 20 and 45 meters below the surface of the sea, just an hour from the small port of Stromness. Surrounded by a ring of islands, Scapa Flow offers sheltered diving conditions in almost any weather, making it an ideal destination for diving expeditions.

Arrival & departure

We will meet on November 2 to load the MV Clasina in Stromness. We will leave the boat on the morning of November 9.

Arrival and departure must be organized by yourself. Drivers can take the Northlink ferry from Scrabster to Stromness. The MV Clasina is located close to the ferry terminal. It is therefore possible to park the car in Scrabster and store the diving equipment in special Northlink containers.
Alternatives are the ferry connection from Aberdeen or the flight with Logan Air to Kirkwall (KOI). The onward journey from Kirkwall to Stromness takes around 30 minutes by cab.

Procedure

The first diving day is November 3. In total there will be 6 diving days with two dives each.

We usually start with the cruisers, which have an average depth of about 28m and a maximum depth of 33m. After we are all comfortable, we turn our attention to the deeper wrecks, such as the Margrave and the King. The battleships lie at a maximum depth of 45m.

  • 08:00 Breakfast
  • 08:30 Departure from the harbor
  • 09:30 First dive
