The first Eagle Tour of the year: winter hiking and snowshoe tours in the Dolomites, more precisely in the Tires valley near Bolzano. A week of walking the most beautiful local tours, hopefully with plenty of snow and sunshine.
Snow has been one of the more delicate things this year. The south side of the Alps hasn’t seen any fresh snow for weeks. And: during the week temperature was up to 13 degrees celsius (!) at the hotel. Nevertheless, we had plenty of snow in the Tschamin valley – where we were able to snowshoe in the snow-covered and frozen stream bed. The Alpe di Siusi was also covered in glistening snow which reflected in bright sunshine.
You can see from this: There was plenty of sunshine this week. Only when we went on the hike via Bärenfalle and Prügelsteig did it turn grey into grey. But that didn’t detract us from having a great tour!
Overall, our tour programme was somewhat more moderate than in summer. Despite the crampons being our most important piece of equipment for the week, snow and ice-covered paths are slower to walk on. Climbs take longer and require more strength. But even without being high up everywhere, we had fantastic views, great and challenging tours and lots of fun!
Many thanks once again to the team at the Hotel Weisslahnbad, who looked after us so well!
