A week in the Dolomites – what a wonderful tour! Starting on the Seiser Alm, past the Plattkofel and Langkofel, over and around the Marmolada. And back to the starting point via the Pordoi Pass and the Sella Pass. This was our route for the Marmolada tour.

There were so many exciting and beautiful moments on the tour:

Number 1: The marmots. There are many marmots in the Dolomites. Marmots that let you get within 2 meters of them, not so many. And yet several of them were perched on the path above the Rifugio Contrin and didn’t let us disturb them. Great pictures!

Number 2: The snow. A tour at the beginning of July below 2,800 meters and with snow? Yes! There was still quite a lot of snow on the approach to Passo Ombretta. This was rather unexpected. Careful walking and skirting were the order of the day. A good opportunity to practise walking on mushy snow. Incidentally, there was a serious accident on a snowfield on the neighboring Passo Ombrettola just a week later.

Number 3: The weather. We had everything from heat to pouring rain and thunderstorms. The most exciting: the waterfalls down from the Sassolungo and, of course, the stream crossing! Where the hiking trail crosses a dry stream bed in summer, there was suddenly a raging river. So: upstream – look for fords. Everyone masters this tricky task with care and caution.

Number 4: The views. This tour is particularly recommended for view fetishists! There are always new views – first the Plattkofel and Langkofel, Schlern and Rosengarten, then the Marmolada, the view of Alta Badia, the Sella, the Puez/Geissler Nature Park… You almost have the feeling that a new view appears around every bend.

Number 5: The cohesion of the group. Hiking together, arriving together. The group stands together, even if individual members are not doing so well. Luggage is distributed, the pace is slowed down – and always in a good mood. Wonderful!
