April 20 – 27, 2024

Trieste – the city of coffee, the city of winds, the “forgotten city”. Trieste has many names, but few people know it. Located in the east of Italy, Trieste belonged for centuries to the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and was its most important trading port. The Austro-Hungarian influence can still be seen in the city today: Maria Theresa had many of the buildings constructed, and so in some ways Trieste is reminiscent of Vienna, except that it is by the sea.

The city and its surroundings are also the start or finish of many famous hiking trails such as the Alpe Adra Trail, the Via Alpina and the Sentiero Italia. Also the CAI 1 (Hiking Trail 1 of the Italian Alpine Club) passes through the Trieste region. At the beginning of the hiking season, we take on the most beautiful trails around Trieste and in the Karst. These are all easy trails, both technically and in terms of altitude (max. 600 Hm) and with moderate walking times (max. 6 hours).

The rich cultural offer we incorporate, so to speak, on the way: the Miramare Castle, where also the Empress Sissi lived for a time, the Duino Castle, which Rainer Maria Rilke liked to visit, including its poets’ path, the Monte Grisa church up in the Karst, as well as an extensive city tour round off our program.
