The Rheinsteig is one of the first premium hiking trails in Germany. It always leads along the right bank of the Rhine from Bonn to Wiesbaden. We’re picking trail number 2 to 4 from Königswinter to Bad Hönningen. In the process, we cross the Siebengebirge (watch out for dragons!), pass through picturesque little towns and walk along paths with great views.
Friday: Meeting in Königswinter at 11 am. Approx. 6 hrs walking time, 21 km, approx. 700 hm ascent, 800 hm descent. Trail end: Bad Honnef, overnight in a 3-star hotel incl. breakfast.
Saturday: Bad Honnef to Linz am Rhein. Approx. 6 hrs. walking time, 21 km, approx. 600 Hm. Ferry to Remagen, overnight stay in simple hotel directly on the Rhine, incl. breakfast.
Sunday: Ferry to Linz, from there to Bad Hönningen. Approx. 4.30 hrs. walking time, 15 km, approx. 400 Hm. From Bad Hönningen departure.
The trail mostly follows dirt roads. In the towns, at the beginning and end of every day, we walk on asphalt, otherwise on unpaved trails through forests and fields. Each day, ascents and descents are alternating well throughout.
The tour has a train station as the start and finish points. Public transport is advisable.
