July 26 – August 2, 2025 – 7 hiking days Sentiero della Pace
This year’s most challenging tour takes us along the Sentiero della Pace from San Martino di Castrozza to Cortina d’Ampezzo. On the Peace Trail – always on the front line of the First World War – we hike through the incredibly beautiful and wild world of the Dolomites.
This section of the Sentiero della Pace is for those who already have a lot of hiking experience. We have a few really long and technically demanding stages. Steel cables included! In some places the trail is steep and exposed. You must be sure-footed and have a head for heights.
The reward is magnificent views, solitude in places and many insights into the reality of WW1. And the route is definitely a luxury trail: we sleep almost exclusively in hotels along the way.
Please note: We have 7 tour days this time. You will therefore definitely need an overnight stay at the end of the tour in Cortina or possibly Venice to return to home. The group is limited to a maximum of 6 participants!

Arrival in San Martino di Castrozza. Our Hotel Albergo Venezia is located directly on Passo Rolle with the bus stop right outside the door. Overnight stay / half board in a “family room” (4 – 6 persons).
Sunday, July 27, 2025
An introductory tour directly from Passo Rolle. We take the Sentiero della Pace a little way south and make a tour around or through the Colbricon peaks. Approx. 800 m ascent and descent, 15 km. Overnight stay / half board in the Albergo Venezia (see above)

Here we go! Instead of walking along the pass road, we take the bus to Paneveggio. From there, we head north towards Cima Bocche and Passo Juribrutto. Lots of ups and downs, some challenging terrain on the plateau. Approx. 1,100 m ascent, 700 m descent, 18 km. Overnight stay / half board in a middle-class hotel (shared room).

The king stage already? It’s possible… but do you do king stages on a Tuesday? Maybe you do. We have a total of 3 major passes over 2,000 meters ahead of us. With gigantic ups and downs, we head from the pass to the Bergvagabunden hut at Passo Selle. Then over the pass at the Sella Palacia and the Pas Pasche before descending to the Rifugio Contrin. Technically, the day is not difficult, but long and strenuous. Fortunately, the 3 passes mean that the ascents are spread out a little. Approx. 1,550 m ascent, 1,450 m descent, 19.5 km. Overnight stay / half board in a shared room in the Rifugio Contrin.

Today we circle the Marmolada from the south side. For me, this is still the loneliest and most beautiful Marmolada tour! We climb behind the Rifugio Contrin to the south side of the Marmolada, up to the Passo Ombretta. The descent leads through a gigantic scree slope of the mountain, caution is advised. Further down, we can stop off at the Rifugio Falier before descending to Malga Ciapela on easy paths. Approx. 800 m ascent, 1,200 m descent, 13 km. Overnight stay / half board in shared rooms in the Baita Ducovich. We did this stage in 2024 when we circled the Marmolada – just amazing! Read here.

How pleasant is that! Today we use the chairlift – completely out of the ordinary course of things – to get to Passo Padon. Why? I don’t fancy walking up to Passo Fedaia on a pass road – and the wide road up to the pass is no fun either. So today is pure luxury… And the luxury doesn’t end there: we have a super short stage today to be fit for tomorrow – and great accommodation with great food! Approx. 250 m ascent, 1,150 m descent, 12 km. Overnight stay / half board in shared rooms at Cesa Pedon (Pieve Livinallongo).
Friday, August 1, 2025
The next major wartime stage takes us from Pieve to the Valparola Pass – over the Col di Lana, which became sadly famous during WW1. A few more difficult passages await us there, secured by wire ropes. Approx. 1,100 m ascent, 400 m descent, 11 km. Overnight stay in shared rooms at the Rifugio Valparola.
Saturday, August 2, 2025
The final day – we take on the last section of the Sentiero della Pace in the Dolomites west of Cortina before our hike comes to an end. We stroll from the Valparola Pass to the Rifugio Dibona before descending to the road and taking the bus to Cortina. Approx. 500 m ascent, 900 m descent, 12 km.
